Make Simple Curtains and Valance for any Window

For a quick set of curtains and a valance is something that you can do, even if you do not have much experience sewing. It's just a matter of thinking through the process and for the calculation of the required material and knowing how to use a sewing machine too.

Tools needed: calculator, pencil and paper, tape measure, yard stick, pins, scissors, iron, thread and sewing machine.

Decide what color or pattern will work best with your room décor now. Going to the fabric store is always amy time's most fun, I think my imagination open and get swatches of fabrics (and prices) will see the first time, are what all my options. Take swatches home and start to eliminate by next large parts of the already decorated room (couch, chairs, tables, walls, etc.). Once you have decided on your fabric start measuring.

To measure material to decide how long you will be the valance. Where you are the curtains at the window? Will you do them caféStyle or halfway down the window? Maybe you only want a small gap between the valance and curtain, use your imagination, draw a sketch from the window and get some placements, to see what looks good.

If you (make these decisions, actions in the upper reference point to the top of window, top of rod) down to where the valance to end. Add additional 7 "for the upper and lower edge of this (you will be by 3" for top hem, the staff and go 4) "for the bottom hem.Suppose you want your valance to 10 long, add 7 "for the federal government and you have 17". Now measure for your bottom curtains. The same applies here, measure from top reference point (where your curtains will start) to just under below or above the sill. Add the 7 "to this length. Example: 32 "bottom curtain length is 7" = 39 ". Write down everything. Molding for the width measurement in a window from outside to outside. Depending on how" full "you want the curtains to bethe deciding factor on how much material you buy. Normal fullness recommendation would be twice the width of the window, or at least half again as much. We become "basic", let's say a normal window is 36 "on X 60" length. That means you must not forget to calculate double the width of the valance and curtains, but the curtains are split down the middle. Most material will run 36 "- 44" (regular material) to 60 "(drapery & upholstery material) in width. If youa web width of 36 "- 44", it will be easier to use simply doubled the width. If there is a wide cut a little off the ends if necessary.

Now it is time to go to get your material! Take your Swatch, sketch and measurements with you! I would recommend a fabric that is easily shaped, with (cotton, cloth, work, etc.). Do you have to store your materials, sales staff assist you in calculating the amount, and provide you with all details, especially if it's a design a certain way or hasnap. Should in most cases, 3-3 ½ m more than enough for each window.

Pre-wash the material if you choose. If you do not pre-wash material and wash the curtains later expecting them to have the same length, you will be surprised! If you've already washed your material, take it out of dryer, fold in half, wrong side out (if we may say), as previously from the camp of the screw, and place it on your surface and smooth it out ( table, floor, etc.). Do the same for all widths of material, which ismake it easier to handle. You can contact with iron.

Time to mark the fabric and cut! Your material is now created () not many wrinkles. You should get a straight line at the top of your scale. Mark a straight line with a pencil in the upper (darker when material is the spring for work or even chalk if you have it). Eyeball to ensure it to, it looks even sometimes the chemical product is not cut so it's up to you. This will be your starting reference point (thisis a cut line) for you. Get your calculations for the length of each: valance and curtain. Now measure from the straight line down for valance length needed, this twice, because it must be for fullness (unless 60 "width fabric) be doubled. Make a mark. Repeat the folding process in the middle and on the edge. Now put on your yardstick from brand to brand and draw a line (this is also a section line). Do the same for curtains. Each curtain side gets its own track(unless) 60 "width fabric. Grab a couple of pins and pin just inside the edges and lines of each section highlighted. Cut along lines. They should cut 4 pieces, 2 for the valance and 2 for each curtain on this side.

Went back to Mark, this time on the right side of the fabric. Open your pieces right side of the material on, put them straight, with a pencil, lightly mark 3 "from the bottom straight to the top of each piece, make several marks. Use scale to connect brandsa straight line. Do the same on the bottom, 4 "up from straight edge. Mark 1" on both side edges of each piece. Select all the pieces. Ensure that all brands are readily placed on the outside of the fabric, but dark enough so you can see them. Volant sewing together two pieces, making it a long piece. Press seam flat. Fold under side edges of all pieces turning under ½ "twice (is 1" all together, pencil line should be on outside edges), press & stitch along inside folded edge. Pressup hems to inside resources to all selected rows. Fold them under ½ of width and press again. Stitch along that folded edge on the inside. Holding fabric, as you surely do not constitute material pile stitch. You should have a 2 "hem for each piece and a 1 ½" for top hem covenant have to curtain rods with foil. Be sure to backstitch when they start, embroidery and sewing step to the end of coming out.

Viola, there you have it! This procedure should onlytakes about 1 ½ hours. Insert the rod through the upper station of the curtains. Put up valance and curtains.
